Whychus Creek

The three forks of Whychus Creek begin southwest of the City in the Three Sisters Wilderness and on its over 40-mile journey to the Deschutes River flows through the City of Sisters. The name Whychus means "the place we cross the water" in the Sahaptin language spoken by the tribes who historically lived and traveled along the creek.

The City of Sisters and the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council partnered to develop the Whychus Creek Restoration and Management Plan with the goals of protecting properties from bank erosion, maintaining the recreational and aesthetic benefits to the community, enhancing the natural resource values, and complying with federal and other natural resource regulations.
