WHAT: The Locust Roundabout will be a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of US 20 and Locust Street. The project enables an alternate route to US 20 and the Barclay Drive industrial district. This bypass, especially when used by commercial trucks provides a safer route through the US 20/Locust Street intersection, which sees the highest number of vehicle collisions in the city.
The Locust Roundabout will provide enhanced pedestrian and bicycle crossings, new sidewalks to and from adjacent side streets, and a multi-use path along Locust Street. The Roundabout will slow speeds for vehicles heading into town, helping to reduce congestion and preserve the integrity and pedestrian-friendly quality of the City's downtown core.
ESTIMATED COST AND BUDGET
Cost for the project is estimated at $7.06 million to be funded by Street SDC, URA, County & STIP Funds.
COUNCIL GOAL ALIGNMENT
Essential Infrastructure: Complete design and initiate construction for Barclay Drive Alternate route improvements.
