Think Before You Flush

A lot of household items may appear safe, but they actually damage the sewer system and create expensive repair bills when flushed down the toilet.

Please help keep these damaging imposters out of our sewers.  It is not just you that is negatively impacted.  Your neighbors and the larger community are also affected.

  • “Flushable” & Non-Flushable Wipes:  Regardless of what the label says, these “flushable” wipes can clog the sewer creating costly repairs.  Dispose of wipes in the trash, even if the packaging says they are flushable!
  • Facial Tissues & Paper Towels:  Unlike toilet paper, facial tissues are treated with a chemical binder that takes a long time to break down.  Paper towels are also designed to stay intact.
  • Feminine Hygiene Products:  These products absorb moisture and expand making it difficult for them to travel through the sewer pipes typically effecting private sewer services.  They do not break down.
  • Disposable Diapers:  Disposable diapers are not meant to be flushed.
  • Dental Floss:  Dental floss wraps itself around anything that travels through the sewer system.
  • Other Items:  Grease, rags, egg-shells, sand, hair, cat litter, condoms, and cotton balls.
