WATER RATES &

WASTEWATER RATES

Wastewaterrate1

The Public Works Department manages the City’s wastewater treatment facilities in a manner that preserves water quality and protects public health and welfare.  In addition, Public Works is responsible for maintenance and repair of City pumpstations, sewer lines, manholes, cleanouts, and sewer service connections.

EQUIVALENT DWELLING UNITS
The City charges sewer fees based on Equivalent Dwelling Units (EDU).  An EDU is defined as the average volume of domestic waste discharged from an average residential dwelling unit.  The current rate of $35.70 per EDU was set by City Council Resolution No. 2009-11 effective July 1, 2009.

Residential Accounts
Single family residential customers are charged one (1) EDU per month.  Multi-family residences are charged one EDU for each dwelling unit.

Qualified Low Income Customers pay 75% of sewer rates

Commercial Accounts

Per Resolution No. 2009-11, commercial EDU’s are calculated each year based on average winter water consumption from January, February and March.  Average winter water consumption is divided by 501.337 cubic feet, which represents one EDU.  This amount is multiplied by the current EDU rate to calculate the monthly sewer charge.  Irrigation meters are excluded in determining the winter average.

RATES

  • A minimum of one EDU is required.
  • New rates are effective July 1 – June 30.
  • Rate calculations are made in May of each year.
  • Notices are sent to all commercial accounts in May-June of each year to notify customers of their new sewer rate for the next fiscal year.
  • A Customer has 10 days from the receipt of the letter to ask for reconsideration of their new proposed rate.
NOTES

Be proactive during the winter months of January, February, and March by checking for leaks or abnormal water usage.  This will not only save you money on your water bill, but save on your sewer charges for the coming year as well.

EDU CALCULATION EXAMPLE

If a business’s water consumption was 1000cf in January, 1200cf in February, and 1400cf in March the monthly sewer charge would be calculated as follows:

Total water consumption for January -- March
Average monthly consumption
Divide by one EDU
Equals number of EDU for the account
Multiply by current EDU rate
Equals monthly sewer charge for the account
3600cf
1200cf
501.337
2.40
$35.70
$85.68
